A Spotlight On Some of The Best Nonstick Skillet
Best Nonstick Skillet Reviews:
Tramontina 80114/535DS Nonstick Restaurant Fry Pan
The first thing that needs to be mentioned when talking about the Tramontina is how well-built it is. The pan is made using heavy-gauge aluminum. This means two things. One, that the Tramontina is extremely strong and durable.
With a lot of other nonstick skillets, you have to worry that they will damage easily or scratch easily. Scratching, in particular, is a big worry because you often use things like forks, spatulas, etc., while working with a pan. Secondly, it also means that the Tramontina heats up evenly.
It’s a sign of a poorly made piece of cookware when it doesn’t heat up properly. But, that isn’t an issue with this nonstick skillet. It both quickly and evenly heats up, ensuring that your food is cooked to perfection.
Now, let’s talk about arguably the most important feature, the nonstick surface. The nonstick surface performs extremely well (if it didn’t, it probably wouldn’t be on the best nonstick skillet list). The nonstick surface is made using PFOA-free Eclipse nonstick coating.
Again, this is a very good thing. Eclipse is a non-toxic spray that is a safe and effective way of making sure that food doesn’t stick to the skillet.
It also gives you a good amount of variety when it comes to cooking. It’s both dishwasher and oven safe (up to a temperature of 400 degrees Celsius), meaning you can cook meats on the stove to get some nice searing, and then finish them off in the oven, like a true chef.
The Tramontina also comes in four distinct sizes, ranging from 8-inches all the way up to 14-inches. Each individual skillet is fairly affordable as well, so buying the whole set for yourself or as a gift is very doable.
Finally, we should mention the handle. A good handle is probably one of the most important parts of any skillet, as any chef can tell you. The Tramontina comes with a soft, comfort grip handle. The handle can easily be removed for cleaning purposes and the handle has a convenient hole that makes it easy to hang the skillet up.
Durable aluminum construction.
Removable, comfort grip handle.
Eclipse nonstick coating.
Comes in four different sizes.
Not overly expensive.
Doesn’t come with a lid, must be purchased separately.
Vesuvio Ceramic Coated Nonstick Frying Pan
Although we are only picking one best nonstick skillet on this site, if we were forced to pick a runner-up, the spot would easily go to the Vesuvio Ceramic Coated Nonstick Frying Pan. This is a very well-made nonstick skillet and definitely a great all-around piece of cookware.
What makes it so great of a product? Well, it’s hard to pick one area to start with, since there are so many positive qualities to mention, so let’s start by talking about how solid its construction is.
As you might have guessed from the name, the Vesuvio is made in Italy and thus is of the finest quality. The outside is made of high-quality aluminum. The inside is made with a special ceramic coating that makes sure that the Vesuvio maintains its nonstick qualities for a long time.
The ceramic coating and the aluminum construction also ensure even heating, which is obviously very important when dealing with a skillet.
The Vesuvio also ticks off all the health and environmental boxes that you want to be ticked off when buying a skillet. It doesn’t include any lead in the skillet, it’s 100% recyclable aluminum. There is no cadmium used in the construction either.
There is also no PTFE or PFOA used in the coating. So, you can safely cook with the Vesuvio skillet, without having to worry that harmful chemicals are leaching into your food.
It has a very well-designed handle. The handle has a comfort grip and it stays very cool to the touch, even in the hottest conditions.
Another feature of the Vesuvio’s that we must mention is the lid that comes with it. To many nonstick skillets don’t include a lid with their skillet, they make you purchase it separately. The lid is also very well-designed, being lightweight, easy to grip (it also stays cool to the touch, much like the Vesuvio’s handle), and it’s perfect for steaming.
Sturdy aluminum construction.
No PTFE, PFOA, or other harmful chemicals used in the construction of the skillet.
High-quality ceramic coating on the interior.
Handle is sturdy and has a comfort grip.
Comes with lid.
A bit expensive.
Alpha Frying Pan, with Stone Ceramic Marble Coated
While the Alpha Frying Pan was not ultimately our choice for best nonstick skillet, we can still recognize that this is a great skillet and one that anyone would be happy to own.
First off, we have to mention the great coating on the Alpha Frying Pan. The coating is made using ceramic, which is a very standard choice when it comes to nonstick coating.
However, what sets the Alpha Frying Pan apart from many of its competitors is the number of times that the coating is applied. The special ceramic coating on the Alpha Frying Pan is applied six separate times to the entire interior of the skillet.
Why is this relevant? Well, it ensures that the frying pan continues to be a nonstick frying pan for a long time. If the coating was applied fewer times, it would wear off a lot quicker.
The design of the pan is also great. Not only is it designed to ensure even heating, it’s also very easy to use. The handle is sturdy and the pan itself is lightweight enough to ensure that you can easily flip certain kinds of food with the pan alone (you don’t even have to use a spatula).
It even has a specific thumb rest, to make it easy and comfortable to hold the pan like professional chefs do.
The Alpha Frying Pan also contains no potentially toxic material in it. You don’t have to worry about things like PFOA or other toxins leaching into your food when cooking with this pan.
This is just a very high-quality nonstick skillet.
It may not be the best, but it’s still very worthy of inclusion on our best nonstick skillet list.
Interior coated with six layers of special nonstick coating to ensure long use.
Comfortably designed handle is easy to use.
Great construction ensures even heating.
No potentially harmful chemicals used in the making of the pan.
No lid included.
Can’t stand up to very high temperatures.
T-fal E91898 Ultimate Hard Anodized Scratch Resistant Titanium Nonstick Cookware
T-fal is a very well-known manufacturer of cookware and they have a very high reputation, so it should be no surprise that a T-fal product shows up on the best nonstick skillet site.
So, what’s so great about this particular T-fal skillet that we decided to include it on this list with all these other great skillets? For starters, it has a solidly constructed aluminum base. This provides a good amount of longevity and durability.
You don’t need to worry about the pan becoming dented, scratched, etc. The inside of the pan is similarly well-built. It has a titanium nonstick coating that will last for years and that is capable of withstanding higher temperatures (up to 400 degrees Fahrenheit). It’s also designed to not warp when exposed to higher temperatures consistently.
One of the coolest and most useful features of the T-fal is the thermo-spot heat indicator. This is essentially a red mark in the middle of the pan when it glows, you know that your pan is heated perfectly. This is great if you want to sear meat or vegetables, which requires precise heat control to do properly.
Finally, we should also mention that unlike quite a few other skillets, the T-fal comes with a fitted glass lid.
Comes with fitted lid.
Very well-made, uses durable aluminum.
T-fal’s patented thermo-spot heat indicator makes accurate cooking easy.
Can be difficult to clean.
TECHEF Frying Pan, Coated with New Teflon
The final nonstick skillet that we are looking at on our best nonstick skillet list is the TECHEF Onyx Collection Frying Pan. Like all the other skillets that we’ve featured so far, this is a well-made skillet that will go over well in anyone’s kitchen.
The base of the skillet is made with stainless steel, which helps to prevent warping and physical damage. It also helps to ensure even heating. The exterior of the skillet is also very durable, being made with heavy-gauge aluminum construction.
The handle is made of brushed steel. This not only makes the handle durable, but it also keeps cool to the touch, even when near heat.
The interior is coated with PFOA-free Teflon. Usually, you should avoid Teflon coated nonstick skillets, but TECHEF is a reliable brand and promises that there is no harmful PFOA, which is a chemical that is sometimes found in Teflon coated skillets (you will read more about this in our buying guide).
Handle is made of brushed steel and remains cool to the touch.
Exterior is durable thanks to heavy-gauge aluminum construction.
Interior coated in PFOA-free Teflon spray.

Skillet Buying Guide
Now that you’ve read the reviews and seen our pick for best nonstick skillet, you can decide which of the nonstick skillets is right for you. However, no doubt some of you will still be curious about how we decided which nonstick skillets to feature on the site.
Some of you will also be curious about what features you should be looking for when searching for nonstick skillets. There are a lot of nonstick skillets out there, and if you don’t know what you’re looking for, you can easily end up with a subpar product that loses its nonstick capabilities within a few months.
However, if you go shopping armed with the requisite knowledge, you can find an affordable, high-quality nonstick skillet that will last.
How To Determine The Quality of A Nonstick Surface
One of the hardest things for people shopping for nonstick skillets is how to figure out which nonstick skillets actually have a good quality nonstick surface. After all, you can’t really test a nonstick skillet in store.
It also doesn’t help that even the worst nonstick skillet generally keeps its nonstick qualities for a few uses. This means that you can even return skillets that don’t retain their nonstick properties. So, what is a person to do?
Well, there are certain things that you can keep an eye out for that indicate that you are dealing with a high-quality nonstick skillet that will last you for a long time.
For starters, you will want to pay attention to skillets that advertise that they use “Eclipse.” Eclipse is a nonstick coating that is sprayed onto nonstick skillets in three separate layers. Simply put, Eclipse is a great product that ensures that a skillet retains its nonstick properties for a long time.
Eclipse coating is used on a large number of nonstick skillets. Given that on this site we gave the title of best nonstick skillet to the Tramontina, which uses Eclipse coating, you can probably tell that we rate it quite highly. So, when you’re shopping for your nonstick skillet, we heavily encourage you to start by looking for skillets with Eclipse coating.
If you can’t find a skillet that you like that also uses Eclipse coating, there are other sings that you can look for. For example, ceramic-coated skillets also tend to keep their nonstick properties for quite a while as well.
Also, look at the recommended temperatures that the skillet can operate under. Cheaper nonstick skillets can’t operate at higher temperatures, as it decreases the effectiveness of the coating. So, if you see a skillet that is advertised as being to be able to be used at higher temperatures, that’s a sure sign of a well-made skillet, that will keep its nonstick properties.
To give you an example, our pick for best nonstick skillet, the Tramontina, is capable of operating at temperatures of roughly 400 degrees Celsius. A low-quality nonstick skillet couldn’t operate at temperatures that high and still maintain its nonstick coating.
Finally, you should make an effort to avoid nonstick skillets that use PTFE and PFOA. Both of those are chemicals, PTFE is short for what we commonly call “Teflon.” Both of these chemicals are used in some nonstick skillets.
However, recently people have begun to shy away from these chemicals because they stay in your body for long periods of time and because some research has suggested that these chemicals can increase your chances of developing cancer. Most high-quality nonstick skillets make a point of not using either of these chemicals.
For example, both the Tramontina and the Vesuvio nonstick skillets that we reviewed make it loud and clear that they don’t use these chemicals. So, just to be on the safe side, we generally recommend against nonstick skillets that contain these chemicals, it’s a sign of low-quality.
Make Sure It Has A Good Handle
Another point that we really want to emphasize is how important it is that the skillet that you buy has a good handle. The handle should be secure and have some sort of comfort grip to allow you to hold it both firmly and comfortably.
There are two reasons for this. Firstly, nonstick skillets are a lot more vulnerable to scratching because of their coating. Any deep scratches could damage the effectiveness of the skillet. Having a secure handle helps minimize the risks of scratching because you lost your grip on the skillet.
Secondly, nonstick skillets allow you to maneuver food without using spatulas and forks. With a good nonstick skillet, you can easily cook an omelet without a spatula. You can just flick your wrists and flip the omelet.
Then, when it’s done cooking, you can just slide it right onto the plate. But, in order to do this, you need a good handle, so make sure that you check for this before purchasing a skillet.
